The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General’s Office have uncovered a large-scale scheme to help people evade mobilisation in Mykolayiv.

According to the SBU, they detained the head of the Mykolayiv Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre, who allegedly helped conscripts avoid mobilisation in exchange for money.

The investigation found that the official arranged for false information about his clients to be entered into the Oberih system and guaranteed that they would be removed from the wanted list. Investigators documented a case in which the detained official demanded $20,000 from four men.

Law enforcement officers detained the military recruitment chief while he was receiving the full amount. He is expected to be served with a notice of suspicion under the article concerning accepting a bribe by an official.

Investigators are already conducting searches at the Territorial recruiting centre (TRC) premises and the official’s residence. He faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
