The film Rescue by Italian-American director Alessio Scyazza will be screened at the Animal Liberation Film Festival, which will take place in Melbourne on 6–8 November, the film’s team reports.
The film tells the story of volunteers who rescue animals in combat zones in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhya Regions. The project was produced by the Ukrainian organisation Every Animal together with the American production company We Are All Animals.
While working on the film, the team captured real-life animal rescue stories carried out not only by Ukrainians, but also by volunteers from Switzerland, Bulgaria, and other countries. The rescued animals included not only cats and dogs, but also horses, cows, goats, and others.
Director Alessio Scyazza first came to Ukraine in 2024. Moved by the stories he heard there, he decided to start filming. The director spoke about this in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
