On the night of 26 August, Ukrainian forces struck the Kstovo oil refinery in Russia’s Nizhniy Novgorod Region. A fire broke out at the facility after the strike.
This was reported by the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s General Staff and the Special Operations Forces.
The attack was carried out by Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces together with the Unmanned Systems Forces and other components of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
The Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery is one of the key facilities in Russia’s oil infrastructure. Its processing capacity is up to 17 million tonnes of oil per year, and its refining depth is up to 78%.
According to the Special Operations Forces, the facility accounts for up to 11% of petrol production in Russia. The plant produces petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, lubricants, fuel oil and liquefied gases.
In addition, the refinery is involved in meeting the needs of Russian troops. In particular, the facility supplies the Central Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. The General Staff confirmed that the plant’s capacities were hit and reported a subsequent fire on its premises. The extent of the damage to the facility is currently being clarified.
