Ukraine’s Defence Minister Yevhen Khmara met with US senators Thom Tillis, John Curtis and Alan Armstrong. During the talks, the Ukrainian side handed its American partners a specific list of requirements to counter Russian aggression, particularly in the area of air defence.

This is reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the situation on the battlefield, key threats from Russia, Ukraine’s needs for air-defence systems and further support for the Defence Forces.

Yevhen Khmara thanked the United States for supporting Ukraine, including assistance in supplying critically important weapons through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and JUMPSTART mechanisms.

The Defence Minister briefed the senators on the situation on the front line and the intensification of Russian attacks. According to him, Russia is stepping up strikes on civilian targets, increasing production of ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, and attacking vessels that support Ukraine’s grain exports.

Khmara stressed that Russia can only be stopped by force, and that this requires continued support for Ukraine’s Defence Forces and the provision of capabilities to protect people and destroy Russia’s military potential.

Separately, the sides discussed the possibility of using Ukraine’s combat experience to strengthen the capabilities of the United States and other allies. The Ukrainian side presented partners with relevant areas and projects that could help them better prepare for modern threats.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine thanked the United States for supporting Ukraine on its path towards a just and lasting peace.
