President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed three decrees enacting decisions of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council on the application of sanctions.
The President’s Office press service reported this.
In particular, sanctions have been imposed on vessels of Russia’s shadow fleet, on companies and individuals linked to the Russian state corporation Rostec, and on propagandists who justify Russia’s aggression.
Among the individuals targeted by the restrictions is, in particular, Zelenskyy’s former press secretary Yuliia Mendel.
- In May, Mendel gave an interview to the American far-right propagandist and Russophile Tucker Carlson. She claimed that during talks in Istanbul in 2022, Zelenskyy personally agreed to hand over Donbas territory to the Russians. Mendel says she spoke with participants in the negotiations, and that they supposedly “agreed to everything”.
- The President’s Office refuted Mendel’s remarks, stressing that she did not take part in diplomatic procedures, had no access whatsoever to decisions at the highest level, and also that she has “not been herself for a long time”.
