A fire has broken out in the Slovak town of Snina on the premises of ZVS Holding, a company that manufactures ammunition.
The blaze engulfed the roof of a production workshop, the Noviny.sk website reports.
No one was injured.
Local authorities advised residents in nearby areas to spend less time outdoors, close windows and doors, and switch off air conditioners and ventilation systems. In addition, residents are being asked not to approach the site of the fire and to follow the instructions of the emergency services.
Slovakia’s Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák said the fire broke out during repair work, suggesting it may have been caused by welding. The official stressed that the production equipment itself is not on fire, and that no manufacturing was taking place in the part of the premises affected by the blaze at the time.
