The fifth ministerial meeting of the G7+ Coordination Group on Ukraine’s energy sector was held in Paris.
As Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported, partners were briefed on Russia’s plans to strike energy infrastructure, based on information provided by Ukrainian intelligence.
The Ukrainian minister also outlined areas of work to counter the occupiers. In particular, Ukraine is strengthening its air defences and needs support from allies, including missiles for air defence systems. Efforts to reinforce the engineering protection of energy facilities are also continuing.
According to Shmyhal, more than 10 GW of capacity is planned to be restored and built this year.
The minister also added that Ukraine is continuing to modernise its energy system and integrate it into the European energy space. “We are building a more decentralised, protected and flexible system. We are continuing reforms on the independence of the regulator, the balancing market, TEN-E and nuclear safety,” Shmyhal said.
The Energy Minister reported that since July this year, more than €218 million has been received by the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. “A further roughly €307 million in support has been announced. At the same time, needs remain significant. By the end of the year, it is necessary to raise at least another €400 million,” the minister stressed.
