French President Emmanuel Macron has instructed the government to draw up a special plan to protect critical infrastructure from hybrid threats from Russia.
He said the nature of Russian aggression and the level of danger in Europe have changed significantly, Le Figaro reports.
The new strategy will cover efforts to counter cyberattacks and hostile drones, and will also protect the country’s most vulnerable facilities in the defence-industrial and technology sectors. Macron stressed that Moscow’s aggressive actions, including numerous attempts to destabilise the situation in Europe, will not go unanswered by European states.
The French leader underlined that the Kremlin is trying to intimidate allies and undermine support for Ukraine — as in the case of a drone carrying explosives discovered at Leipzig Airport earlier this summer. However, such actions will have the opposite effect, as European countries understand that their own present and future depend on Ukraine’s security.
