Russian troops tried to widen the strip they occupy along the Ukrainian border in the Sumy region, but were unable to do so. It is currently about 2–4 kilometres deep.
Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Grouping, said this during a televised broadcast, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, this section falls within the North Slobozhanskyi direction. The situation there remains relatively stable, although Russian forces have managed to take a strip along the Ukrainian border.
"The situation there is fairly stable: the Russians have taken a strip along the Ukrainian border. The strip is shallow, from 2 to 4 km. They tried to widen it, but they are not managing to do so," Trehubov said.
At the same time, the spokesperson stressed that the very fact that Russian forces have created such a strip along the border is negative.
"What is bad is that the Russians have managed to draw such a strip along the border," Trehubov noted.
According to him, Russian attempts to push further in this area are currently not giving them the opportunity to expand the territory they occupy.
