Overnight on 21 September, Russia’s army launched a large-scale attack on Zaporizhzhya. Five people were injured; rescuers pulled another five from the strike site, and 14 were evacuated.
The Russians struck two nine-storey apartment blocks, a shopping centre and a higher education institution building. As of the morning, efforts to extinguish fires caused by the shelling were still under way, the State Emergency Service reported.
Those affected are residents of the two damaged buildings.
“Four people were injured as a result of a hit on one of the high-rise buildings. One more person was injured in the other. Three men and two women were injured,” said Mykhaylo Semikin, acting head of the Regional Military Administration.
According to Zaporizhzhya Visti, the Russian forces hit the historic building of the national university. The building was constructed in the early 20th century and initially served as a girls’ grammar school. The building is listed as a locally significant architectural and urban planning monument.
