In Dnipro, an electrician has been detained on suspicion that he took jobs at several factories in order to direct Russian strikes against them.
“The SBU’s Main Directorate of Internal Security has exposed another agent of Russia’s military intelligence (better known as the GRU) in Dnipro. He turned out to be an electrician recruited by the enemy who helped the Russian Federation prepare air strikes on local facilities,” the SBU press service said.
In recent times, the man changed several jobs at regional factories, trying to find an enterprise working for Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.
As soon as the agent got a job at a company that was in fact linked to the defence sector, the SBU detained him.
According to the case materials, with an “inside” view of the situation, the agent drew up mapping diagrams of local factories for the Russians, marking premises with particularly valuable equipment, production workshops and product storage warehouses. He also reported to the enemy on the characteristics of finished products and the factories’ work schedules.
It was also established that, in addition to spying at the enterprises, the suspect tried to identify and adjust Russia’s missile-and-drone attacks on bases used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine. SBU officers detained the man at his place of residence.
A smartphone was seized from him, which he used to collect intelligence and to contact a GRU “handler” from the Russian Federation. That person turned out to be an employee of the occupation “Ministry of State Security of the Luhansk People’s Republic”, who works for Russia’s military intelligence.
Investigators from the Security Service informed the detainee that he is suspected under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The man is being held in custody without the right to post bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
