Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky began his visit to New York with a meeting with US senators. He also met with French President Emmanuel Macron.
“I thanked them for the strong bipartisan support for Ukraine and for voting for Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill. A very correct step. And when it can be fully implemented, peace and guaranteed security will certainly come closer,” he wrote on Telegram, adding that at the meeting with the senators they agreed their teams would “work more closely on sanctions”.
Zelensky told the senators about de-escalation proposals he will discuss with Donald Trump. They also discussed Ukraine’s needs for ballistic interceptors and the challenges ahead of winter.
Update. The head of state also met with French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed a winter support package for Ukraine with him.
“We are also ready to provide additional SAMP/T air defence systems and missiles for them, using financial capacity within the EU loan. We are continuing work on the possibility of producing such air defence systems and missiles for them in Ukraine, as well as on the joint anti-ballistic programme FREYJA with partners. We are counting on the first results as early as this year,” Zelensky wrote.
