On 21 September and overnight into 22 September, units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck two oil refining facilities in Russia — Bashneft-UNPZ in Ufa and the Kuibyshev Refinery in Samara.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this.
The facilities are located 1,300 km and 910 km from the Ukrainian border, respectively. Fires were recorded at both sites following the strikes.
Bashneft-UNPZ is located in Ufa, in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The plant’s capacity is about 7.5 million tonnes of oil per year. The refinery carries out deep processing of crude and produces petrol, diesel and boiler fuel, liquefied gases, sulphur and other petroleum products.
In Samara, the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery was hit. It is part of Rosneft’s structure and has a processing capacity of about 7 million tonnes of oil per year. The plant produces petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil and more than 30 other types of petroleum products. According to the General Staff, the output of both refineries is used to meet the needs of the Russian army.
“Work on the enemy’s key facilities continues,” the Ukrainian military added.
Special Operations Forces Describe the Strike on Samara
The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery was struck by Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces together with the SBS and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. According to the Special Operations Forces, several of their drones reached their targets, after which a large-scale fire broke out on the plant’s premises.
