The European External Action Service presented a draft of a new sanctions list at a meeting of the EU’s Committee of Permanent Representatives.
It includes 77 candidates in Russia’s 2026 State Duma elections who ran in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories, Yevropeyska Pravda reports.
Following the presentation of the initiative, experts will begin the technical preparation of the document. EU ambassadors will return to consideration of the issue in early October, and the EU Foreign Affairs Council plans to give final approval to the new sanctions list on 12 October.
- On 22 September, it became known that the EU had reached a compromise on extending sanctions against Russia and removed two Russian billionaires — Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman — from the blacklist.
- At the same time, bloc members extended restrictions against nearly 3,000 individuals and legal entities supporting the war against Ukraine for three years at once, instead of the usual six months.
