The court found a 58-year-old resident of the Mykolayiv Region guilty of high treason. He worked as a lead design engineer at one of the defence industry enterprises. He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the prosecution, in July 2024 the man voluntarily agreed to cooperate with a representative of the aggressor state. For secrecy, they communicated via Telegram and a specially configured digital channel with an automatic message deletion function after reading.
In August–September 2024, the convicted man carried out tasks set by his Russian handler and passed on information about the locations of air defence units, servicemen of the State Special Transport Service and other military formations.
In addition, he provided data on the deployment sites of military equipment, ammunition depots in Mykolaiv and the region, critical infrastructure facilities, as well as the fulfilment of state defence procurement orders at the defence industry enterprise.
As prosecutors note, the information transmitted could have been used by Russia to plan missile-and-drone strikes and to damage the Mykolayiv Region’s defence capability.
The court found the man guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed under martial law.
