Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal discussed support for Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter with UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo.
According to the Ministry of Energy, with UNDP support, equipment for more than 500 MW of distributed, highly flexible generation has already been delivered to Ukraine. Ukraine is now counting on partners to help install it as quickly as possible and bring it into operation.
“We highly value UNDP’s assistance in procuring critical equipment for Ukrainian energy companies — we are expecting the delivery of 12 power transformers within the planned timeframe,” Shmyhal said.
The meeting also focused on the energy resilience of communities. The parties discussed expanding municipalities’ capabilities through grant and concessional financing, as well as attracting private investment into their own generation and energy infrastructure.
According to the Ministry of Energy, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, UNDP has mobilised around $718 million in international assistance to restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy system.
