Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Mathias Cormann, in Paris. The parties discussed Ukraine’s progress in meeting the commitments required to obtain full OECD membership.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
“Full membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a strategic goal for Ukraine,” Shmyhal said.
He thanked Cormann for organising the OECD Ministerial Meeting, the organisation’s continued support for Ukraine, and practical co-operation with the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA).
Shmyhal also highlighted the OECD’s expert assistance, the exchange of experience, training, and the participation of Ukrainian specialists in advanced nuclear modelling activities.
He said Ukraine is ready to share with partners its experience in ensuring the safety and continuity of nuclear power generation, as well as keeping the power system functioning amid prolonged Russian attacks.
“Ukraine is counting on support for our application to join the Agency and for subsequent full membership of the OECD,” Shmyhal stressed.
- In June, the Ukrainian side received the results of three OECD reviews of reforms in infrastructure, public administration and justice. The independent assessments confirmed the success of many years of reforms in Ukraine and served as a roadmap for further changes.
