US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. They discussed a “limited ceasefire”.
This was stated on the US State Department’s website.
After the talks, Marco Rubio said that Ukraine and Russia had expressed interest in a certain limited halt to strikes on energy facilities and grain logistics.
“Both sides have expressed interest in some limited ceasefire regarding grain supplies and energy resources,” the Secretary of State said.
He noted that reaching such an agreement could be difficult.
“Obviously, as you understand, this won’t be easy either, but both sides have expressed interest in it. President Zelensky has spoken about it publicly. He talked about it yesterday in a conversation with us and, as I understand it, in interviews given over the past few hours. And, obviously, this may not end the war, but in my view it could, to some extent, potentially ease some of the global pressure being felt as a result of the conflict,” Rubio said.
Also, according to Rubio, the United States has officially invited Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit, which will take place in Miami in December.
During a meeting with President Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if Russia does not want Ukraine to strike its diesel, then it should not attack energy infrastructure, heating and water supply in Ukraine. Ukraine is ready for any format of an energy ceasefire.
