On Thursday, 24 September, a drone crashed in Suceava County, Romania. The aircraft was found near the locality of Solca, in a forest. The authorities decided to suspend classes in schools in four localities in the region until 10:00.
On Thursday morning, Romania’s General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations sent residents of Botoșani County an air-raid alert message after radars operated by Romania’s Ministry of National Defence detected an aerial target that was over Ukrainian territory near the Romanian border.
Two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to monitor the situation.
Earlier, an air-raid alert was also declared in the north of Tulcea County.
According to the country’s Ministry of Defence, the aerial target was in national airspace for about four minutes, after which it crashed near the locality of Solca, causing no casualties or material damage.
Units from the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrived at the scene. They cordoned off the area and found a small drone. There was no fire at the crash site.
This is already the third air-raid alert linked to drones in the counties of northern Moldova over the past two weeks.
