Ukrainian negotiators will visit the United States on Friday and Saturday for talks.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this on 8 October during a visit to the site of Russia’s strike on Pryluky, Reuters reports.

The head of state also urged US President Donald Trump to increase pressure on Russia.

“You cannot, on the one hand, negotiate with the Russians about future economic projects and, on the other, say that we are in some kind of diplomatic dead end,” Zelenskyy said.

Context

The statement about a “dead end” in the talks was made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He said that at present he sees no prospects for resolving Russia’s war against Ukraine through negotiations.

According to him, the war is in a state of “strategic deadlock”, and one of the main obstacles is Russia’s demand to establish full control over Donetsk Region, which Ukraine rejects. At the same time, Washington is ready to play a constructive role if an opportunity for a diplomatic solution emerges.
