On 8 October, units of the Defence Forces struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refining and petrochemical complex in the city of Salavat in Bashkortostan, 1,300 km from Ukraine. A fire broke out on the company’s premises after the strike.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this.

Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat is one of Russia’s largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes. The facility can process up to 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbon feedstock per year and produces, among other things, motor petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and polyethylene.

The General Staff noted that the facility is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian armed forces.

  • During this time, drones were allegedly spotted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Orenburg, Penza, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Tambov, Tula and Ulyanovsk regions. Russia’s Ministry of Defence also reported drones over the Moscow region, Bashkortostan, occupied Crimea, Tatarstan and the waters of the Black Sea.
  • Earlier in the morning, reports also emerged of fires at an oil refinery in Bashkortostan and on the premises of the Sasta machine-tool plant in the Ryazan Region. The facility in Sasovo also houses a Yandex data centre.
