President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that strengthening the protection of Ukraine’s skies could force Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table. He said partners must help Ukraine secure this advantage.
Zelenskyy told journalists this in Pryluky, where he visited the site of a Russian strike on a high-rise building, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
The president stressed that the United States has the necessary capabilities to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences and urged it to provide them to Ukraine.
“Help us protect the sky and dominate it. And then Putin will come to the negotiating table,” Zelenskyy explained.
He also noted that Ukraine is working on new air defence packages. Kyiv has already identified the countries that have the necessary systems and is working to obtain them jointly with the government, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defence.
Zelenskyy urged the United States to open up Starlink capabilities for Ukraine. He noted that the relevant technologies had already been used during the confrontation between Iran and Israel, when Israeli forces, he said, fully controlled Iran’s airspace.
The president also said that China is close to creating an alternative to Starlink, which it could pass on to Russia.
