The Prosecutor General’s Office is conducting an internal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding former Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko’s departure abroad. This was reported by acting Prosecutor General Anton Kovalskyy on Facebook.

In particular, officials are checking compliance with the established procedure and the circumstances related to organising the trip. Kovalskyy added that he would not draw conclusions in advance — the inquiry will provide the answers.

“A separate internal inquiry is also under way into Serhiy Kropyva, Deputy Head of the PGO’s Department of International Cooperation, who was detained as part of the ‘Carthage’ case. The circumstances are being examined regarding his use of official powers for private interests and possible interference in the official work of other prosecutors,” he said.

The post of Deputy Head of a department at the Prosecutor General’s Office held by Aydin Khudiyev has been abolished. The internal inquiry concerning him has been completed.

According to Kovalskyy, 24 prosecutors have undergone polygraph testing. The information obtained has been passed to the commission conducting the internal inquiry.

Following the exposure of a criminal group within the PGO, eight people mentioned in the context of Operation “Carthage” were dismissed from the prosecution service. Seven of them worked at the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The audit is ongoing.

Context

NABU and SAP have uncovered a criminal organisation operating within the Prosecutor General’s Office that provided cover for illegal call centres in exchange for bribes. The main suspect in the case is Serhii Kropyva, a deputy head of one of the departments. He is currently being held in custody along with other suspects.

Ruslan Kravchenko, who headed the PGO, left the country under the pretext of an official trip. Only after that did the President suspend him, and the Verkhovna Rada backed his full dismissal. Kravchenko did not return from the “official trip”.
