On the night of 10 October, units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces again struck the Samara line production and dispatch station near the settlement of Prosvyet in Russia’s Samara Region. The extent of the damage is being clarified.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Samara station is a major hub for receiving, storing and blending oil. Crude arrives there via trunk pipelines from Tatarstan, Western Siberia and other oil-producing regions of Russia.

The facility blends oil with different sulphur content to produce the Urals export grade.

According to the General Staff, the station is also involved in meeting the needs of the Russian armed forces.

In addition, the destruction on 7 October of four tanks with a capacity of 50,000 cubic metres each and a major fire at the same station has been confirmed.

The General Staff noted that strikes on such facilities are aimed at reducing Russia’s military and economic potential and constitute the exercise of Ukraine’s right to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
