Ukraine is ready for real decisions and de-escalation steps to end the war, including an energy ceasefire. At the same time, Russia is not meeting the relevant conditions and continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this following a report from the negotiating group after meetings in the United States.
According to the head of state, Ukraine supported an energy truce and is ready to guarantee it in line with the statement by the US President. Russia must now take the corresponding steps.
Zelenskyy noted that the day before and throughout the day, Russian forces continued to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Air-raid alerts also continued across the country, with the Russians using Shahed attack drones and aerial bombs.
“If the strikes are Russia’s response to the statement by the President of America, then it means the Russians have squandered yet another opportunity to bring peace closer,” Zelenskyy said.
The President stressed that the US position and pressure on Russia are important for successful de-escalation.
Ukraine continues communication with the American side at all levels. According to Zelenskyy, the negotiating teams have set out the next steps and the diplomatic framework.
