Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has appealed to Ukrzaliznytsia over the situation involving the “Lviv–Chernivtsi” train.
According to the Ombudsman, due to the threat of shelling, passengers were evacuated from the carriages, but immediately after the all-clear the train continued on its way, leaving 25 people in a field.
A video of outraged passengers who did not manage to get back into the carriages quickly spread online. Lubinets noted that during the war the railway operates in extremely difficult conditions and staff are doing important work, but such situations demonstrate a lack of co-ordination. He said people’s safety cannot depend on the timetable.
The Ombudsman sent an official letter to UZ to clarify the details of the incident and find out whether all 25 passengers were ultimately able to be taken to their destination.
