Ukrainian universities will receive funding to invite foreign professors and researchers for teaching and joint research. To do so, they must take part in a competition for funding academic visits of up to 300,000 hryvnias. Applications can be submitted via the link.
Applications will be accepted from 16 October until 31 March 2027, or until the budget is exhausted. This was announced by the President of Ukraine’s Foundation for the Support of Education, Science and Sport, which will implement the project.
Ukrainian educational institutions will be able to invite researchers from 250 leading universities worldwide. The institutions themselves will decide whom they want to work with and on which educational and research tasks.
The competition will have two lots. The first is the second stage of the UK–UA Visiting Professors Programme, which provides for visits by professors and leading researchers from British higher education institutions and research organisations. Lot 2, “International Academic Visits for Researchers”, covers higher education institutions and research organisations in all countries of the world, except the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
Ukrainian higher education institutions of all forms of ownership that hold a licence to provide educational services, as well as Ukrainian research organisations, may take part in the competition. The application on behalf of an institution is submitted by its head. One institution may submit only one application within a single lot.
The invited professor or researcher must have teaching and/or research experience at a university that has been in the QS, THE or ARWU top-250 rankings at some point in the past 10 years, or at a leading foreign research organisation. The focus of their work must align with the Foundation’s strategic priorities, including STEM (natural sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics), as well as: healthcare and biotechnology; strategic technologies; digital technologies and artificial intelligence; energy, infrastructure and green recovery; agri-technology and environmental sustainability; high-tech industry; an innovation-driven economy, management and entrepreneurship; the humanities and social sciences.
Within the funding of up to 300,000 hryvnias, an institution may cover the invited researcher’s fee, medical insurance, travel, accommodation, the processing of a work permit, as well as other costs related to research and educational activities. Costs above this amount must be covered by the institution through co-funding. Additional funding gives an application an advantage during the review.
Institutions that invite a researcher who has carried out activities in the territory of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, or temporarily occupied territories since 2014 are not eligible to participate.
Academic visits must take place between 1 December 2026 and 30 June 2027.
