Ukraine will step up efforts to bring the shadow economy into the open.
As Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi reported, the relevant measures were set out within an interagency working group that includes the police, the tax service and the customs service.
“In particular, this concerns changes to the customs clearance of humanitarian aid to prevent abuses. Humanitarian aid must reach those who need it quickly, rather than becoming a cover for illegal imports. In the near future, an updated, well-founded list of goods to which the changes will apply will be determined,” the head of government said.
In addition, the tax service, together with customs and the Bureau of Economic Security, will step up work with taxpayers assessed as high-risk.
Another area is tax evasion schemes through artificial business fragmentation.
“Large chains distribute turnover among dozens and hundreds of sole proprietors and in this way avoid paying VAT. This problem must be resolved by the law enforcement system,” Koretskyi added.
