The Israeli army has withdrawn from Hebron after carrying out an operation in the city in the occupied West Bank.
This was reported by France24.
The operation was launched in response to an attack that took place in late October and led to the deaths of two soldiers.
During the operation, residents of one neighbourhood in the West Bank’s largest city were evacuated — the area where the two attackers had lived. On Monday, AFP journalists witnessed residents returning to their homes after the troops left the area.
More Details About the Attack
On 23 October, a few days before tense elections in Israel, two Palestinian militants attacked an army checkpoint near Hebron. Two soldiers were killed.
Senior officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, promised a large-scale operation in response.
According to the municipality, by the morning of the next day the military had removed residents from the neighbourhood where the attackers lived. More than 3,000 people were forced to leave their homes.
Troops carried out thorough searches at several locations, detained and questioned suspects, and also found and seized four weapons, several vests and additional military equipment.
They also demolished the homes of the two attackers and sealed up an underground room located next to one of them.
