The bodies of deceased residents were removed from the morgue at Oleshky Hospital. Repatriation measures were carried out in Oleshky and the surrounding area. The bodies of both military personnel and civilians were collected.
An agreement was reached with Russia that all bodies whose relatives live in Ukraine will be delivered to Ukraine-controlled territory. Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said this at a briefing on 2 November.
The same route will be used to transport the bodies as during regular repatriation operations.
Lubinets said the mission in Oleshky is a potential mechanism for other occupied areas. There are several settlements where a humanitarian catastrophe has begun. Ukraine will try to carry out humanitarian missions to rescue civilians wherever possible. To this end, they want to set up a separate humanitarian centre that relatives of residents of the occupied territories will be able to contact.
The number of Oleshky residents who have left for Ukraine-controlled territory or for Russia will not be announced officially, Lubinets added.
- Sky News journalists filmed how Russian occupiers used the six-day ceasefire in Oleshky and the surrounding area to strengthen their positions.
- They also recorded the removal of bodies from the morgue.
- The humanitarian mission in Oleshky lasted from 27 October to 22:59 on 1 November. It was possible to deliver humanitarian aid and ensure the evacuation of people who wanted to leave for Ukraine-controlled territory or for Russia.
