The court sentenced four militants who fought against Ukrainian defenders as part of Russian forces to 15 years’ imprisonment, with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Security Service.
Ukrainian troops captured the offenders in the spring and summer of 2025–2026 during fighting on the Oleksandrivka and Kramatorsk fronts, near the border in Sumy region, and in the Vovchansk area of Kharkiv region. The court found the militants guilty of high treason and collaboration.
One of those convicted, a resident of temporarily occupied Luhansk region, initially fought as part of the so-called “LPR people’s militia” and took part in the seizure of Rubizhne. After being wounded, he signed a new contract with Russia’s Ministry of Defence, became an operator in a howitzer battalion, and was captured in April this year near the village of Lypivka in Donetsk region.
The second militant, also a resident of Luhansk region, had been fighting against the ATO forces since 2014. He later joined Russia’s 90th Tank Division, and subsequently led an assault group that attacked Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Hrabovske area of Sumy region, where the Defence Forces captured him this summer.
The third convict turned out to be a former Kharkiv resident who, after the start of the full-scale invasion, left with his family for Russia and from there, via Crimea, was mobilised into the aggressor’s army as a driver-mechanic. After training, he fought in Kharkiv region, where in June 2025 he was wounded in a trench by Ukrainian strike drones and taken prisoner.
The fourth militant joined units of the so-called “DPR” three days before the start of the full-scale war and built fortifications for the occupiers. He later transferred to Russia’s 91st Separate Rifle Regiment and was captured in May this year near Piddubne during a joint operation by the SBU counter-intelligence and fighters of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade.
