Three More Russian Army Commanders Identified Over Strike on Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital

Three more representatives of Russia’s military command have been served with notices of suspicion over organising the missile strike on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv on 8 July 2024.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Those suspected include: the deputy commander of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division, the commander of the 121st Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, and his deputy.

The investigation found that they coordinated the preparation and execution of the missile attack using Tu-95MS strategic bombers.

It was during this attack, at around 10:45, that an Kh-101 missile struck Okhmatdyt’s treatment building, where children were present. At that time, the hospital had more than 600 patients.

As a result of the strike, two civilians were killed — a young doctor and the grandfather of a young patient. At least 34 people were injured, including nine children.

The hospital premises were also destroyed and medical equipment was ruined.

On 3 November 2026, all three were served with notices of suspicion for violating the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

  • Earlier, notices of suspicion for this war crime were also issued to three other senior officials of Russia’s long-range aviation, including its former and current leadership.
  • As a result, in the case concerning the strike on Okhmatdyt, notices of suspicion have now been announced to six representatives of the Russian Federation’s military command — from the leadership of long-range aviation to the command of an aviation regiment.
