PGO raids Lviv city hall

Prosecutors probe the involvement of city officials in the fraudulent sale of land.

Law enforcers conduct searches at the Lviv City Hall building, the Prosecutor-General's Office reported on its website on Tuesday, 14 November.

"The PGO has started pre-trial investigation of the case of abuse of the Lviv city council officials, which led to major losses to the state budget," the statement reads.

It is established that city officials abused their official position against the interests of the service concluded a contract of sale of a land plot for 52m hryvnia, despite that the regulatory and monetary value of the land was at 140m hryvnia.

The case is being investigated on the grounds of a criminal offense (taking on preliminary arrangement by group of persons of property in a large scale through abuse of official position).

"On the basis of the permission of the investigating judge, searches are being held of the premises of the Lviv City Council and the offices of appraisers and the business entity that acquired the land," the report reads.

The chief of the Department of the Lviv city council was earlier announced a suspect in the case of Hrybovychy landfill outside Lviv.
