Two confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus have been registered in Kyiv, the Health Ministry has said.

“The patients have been isolated, they undergo symptomatic treatment. One of the patients returned from France during the incubation period,” the ministry added.

There are now seven confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ukraine. Apart from the Kyiv incidents, there were four cases in Chernivtsi Region and one in Zhytomyr Region. The woman from Zhytomyr Region eventually died.

According to Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, one of the patients is a Kyiv student who had contacts with the woman who died of coronavirus in Zhytomyr Region. He and the woman’s granddaughter visited her together. He is being treated in Kyiv’s Oleksandrivska hospital.

The second patient is a woman who has recently returned from a French resort.

Klitschko said that the woman was self-isolated under doctors’ supervision.

Both patients’ contacts are being examined by doctors.

As of 17 March, Kyiv will limit public transport from other population centres. Mass gatherings at cultural, sport, religious and other events are prohibited.
