Nine Ukrainian servicemen sustained combat injuries in Donbas as their car hit an explosive near Vodyane, the Joint Forces Operation HQ has said.

Since midnight, separatists have carried out three shooting attacks near Vodyane, Pavlopil and Bohdanivka.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov got vaccinated with Indian-made CoviShield. He is the first Ukrainian official to get a jab.

On the morning of 1 March, Ukraine registered 4,285 new Covid-19 cases. The case total has now reached 1,352,134 cases, including 26,050 fatalities.

Security

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted the National Security and Defence Council's decision to introduce personal sanctions against 10 ex-officials of Viktor Yanukovych's government, including ex-Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko and SBU chief Oleksandr Yakymenko.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has sent the Kyiv city prosecutor's office requests for international legal assistance and necessary case files for holding investigative actions in foreign countries in the case of pro-Russian blogger Anatoliy Shariy.

The SBU also learnt that fake documents were used during the re-registration of his party.

Crime

Two employees of the Ukrainian embassy in Poland were stopped at the border as they were trying to smuggle a big sum of foreign currency, gold and counterfeit cigarettes in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said. Both diplomats were recalled and would face disciplinary action.

According to the State Investigation Bureau, the diplomats had 140,000 dollars, 67,200 euros, 11,600 Polish zlotys, 16 kg of gold and 8,826 cigarettes.

Post mortem

The first foreign minister of independent Ukraine, Anatoliy Zlenko, died aged 82.
