Pentagon: More than half of all Russian troops are now in Ukraine, but they have lost the initiative

Russia has faced fierce resistance from Ukraine.

Most of the more than 150,000 Russian troops that were previously gathered at the border are already fighting against Ukraine. However, Russian troops are "becoming more and more disappointed with the loss of initiative" as they face fierce resistance from Ukraine.

This was reported by The New York Times with reference to a senior official of the US Department of Defense.

According to him, Moscow has thrown thousands of troops to Ukraine along the three main columns in the north and south having spent more fuel and logistics than expected.

And even though Russia has now deployed more than half of its combat capacities in Ukraine, its troops still do not control any of the cities, although approaching the capital of Kyiv and other cities, a Pentagon official said. Also, Russian warcrafts do not control the skies over Ukraine, as Ukrainian fighter jets and air defense facilities continue hitting Russian forces.

A Pentagon spokesman stated that Russia had launched more than 250 missiles since the beginning of the invasion on Thursday, mostly short-range ballistic missiles, some of which have hit residential areas.

US officials say they are joining European allies in continuing to supply arms and equipment to Ukraine. In the Saturday statement, the Pentagon said that the additional military aid of 350 million dollars to Ukraine, announced by the White House late Friday, would include Javelin anti-tank missiles, as well as small arms and ammunition, bulletproof vests and other equipment.

As mentioned before, yesterday the Adviser to the Head of the President’s Office Oleksiy Arestovych declared that "the Russian military leadership resorted all accumulated forces in the Ukrainian direction".
