National Bank of Ukraine appealed to the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard to stop servicing payment cards issued by the Russian-resident banks.
This appeal is due to the need to take measures related to the martial law in Ukraine, states the press services of the National Bank of Ukraine.
“National Bank’s team is taking all the possible measures to secure the financial rear of Ukrainians and to counteract the Russian aggression in the financial sector. We believe it is inadmissible to provide financial support to the armed aggression against our state through the bank cards of Visa and Mastercard international payment systems. I hope that Visa and Mastercard companies will make a fair decision for the sake of peace in Ukraine”, - emphasized Kyrylo Shevchenko, the head of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Previously, the Minister of digital transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, called on Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook to block Apple Store for Russian citizens.
Previously European Union banned the sales of securities in euros to Russian clients. European deposits are also limited for Russians.
