US President Joe Biden will not support Volodymyr Zelenskyy's request for a no-fly zone over Ukraine
According to "Yevropeiska Pravda" citing CNN, this is the way White House responded to an appeal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to implement a no-fly zone in Ukraine.
"The president was very clear that he did not intend to send American troops to war with Russia. And I think it is important to note that, in fact, this would be a step in the right direction, because a no-fly zone will require implementation,"said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
"This will require the deployment of the US military to ensure implementation, which will be a direct conflict, a potentially direct conflict and a potential war with Russia, in which we do not plan to participate," she said.
Similar assessments were made by other US officials.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said the Biden administration had "made it clear" that the United States would not "let boots down."
"We are not going to endanger American troops. This means that we are not going to send American troops to the sky either, but we will work with Ukrainians to give them the opportunity to defend themselves," she added.
As LB.ua reported today, Russian Su-30 and Su-35 aircraft are maneuvering in the no-fly zone over the Chornobyl and Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plants, they are firing from there. They are doing this to prevent Ukrainian troops from firing back as shooting the aircraft over a nuclear power plant could lead to an environmental catastrophe.
The existence of such an environmental threat to the entire region is one of the reasons why Zelenskyy is asking for a no-fly zone over Ukraine
