The Russian army set up checkpoints on the outskirts of Kherson. The mayor of the city Igor Kolykhayev reported on Facebook.

At the same time, he noted that currently the situation in the city is relatively calm; the mayor himself is at work and coordinates the work of city services.

Kolykhayev also urged not to believe the information that he "surrendered" the city.

"Don't insult me with such fantasies. If you were in my place, you would do your own thing. And today, I am responsible for the life of OUR city and provide your protection as our capabilities allow. Kherson was and remains Ukrainian! The worst that you can do now is to start ruining the city from the inside," the mayor said.

He asked people not to go outside during the curfew.

"I ask each of you to remain calm and prudent. Do not go outside during the curfew. Do not enter into aggressive negotiations with anyone and do not provoke the enemy to conflict. The greatest value in this city is your life. It is not a fight; it is a war. And war is won by clever actions and cold-bloodedness," Kolykhayev summed up.

The Russian occupiers tried to enter Kherson from the airport at about midnight, but the Ukrainian defenders managed to repel their attack.
