The Venice Commission initiates the terminations of Russia’s right to a representation in the Commission, Serhiy Holovatyy, a member of the Bureau of the Venice Commission, the deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, reported, the Telegram-channel of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine states.
“On March 8, the Venice Commission Bureau members approved the decision for the President of the Venice Commission, Claire Bazy-Malaurie, to address the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the issue of terminating Russia’s right to representation in the Commission,” the message says.
According to paragraph 8 of the Resolution of the Committee of Ministers CM / Res (2022)1 on the legal and financial consequences of the termination of the Russian Federation's right to representation in the Council of Europe, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe is authorized to decide to terminate such representation in the Venice Commission.
The Committee of Ministers should make a decision on this issue on March 10.
