Nearly 150 residents of Volnovakha District evacuated - police

In Donetsk Region, law-enforcement officers, together with representatives of the regional military administration and the State Emergency Service, evacuated residents to safety from settlements in Volnovakha District.

The news was reported on the National Police’s Facebook page.

So far, almost 150 residents have been evacuated.

During the evacuation, priority is given to women with children, the elderly, people with disabilities and the wounded.

"Residents were taken from the collection point, where they had gathered. Also, the police identified people in all the villages who wanted to leave the danger zone. We are trying to save the lives of as many people as possible." reported the police.

The National Police said that the process of finding homes and providing people with basic necessities is underway.

"Rescued people will be evacuated to the Donetsk region and transportation to other areas will also be provided," confirmed the police

Earlier, Ukraine and Russia, with the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, agreed on a ceasefire to evacuate civilians. The ceasefire will be today, 9 March, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. along humanitarian corridors.

Evacuation buses with city residents left Energodar for Zaporizhzhia [in south-east Ukraine].

On Tuesday, 8 March, 5,000 people were evacuated from Sumy.
