Ukrzaliznytsia starts nationalization of Russian freight wagons in Ukraine, as stated by Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC Oleksandr Kamyshin.
There are currently about 15,000 Russian freight wagons belonging to 250 companies in Ukraine. Their nationalization became possible under the law signed by the President of Ukraine On Basic Principles of Compulsory Seizure of Property of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
"We are acting within the law. At the first stage we make the list of owners of freight wagons which have russia among their founders. Then there will be decisions by the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Security and Defense Council, the Presidential Decree and another Law of Ukraine will be applied. The procedure will take time, so we must start right now. Determining which of the wagon owners has a Russian stake in its capital is also a slow process. But we have time, and we have inspiration,” the head of Ukrzaliznytsia said.
He also noted that certain companies among the wagon owners are definitely known to be controlled by Russia, including VEB-Leasing, VTB-Leasing, Gazpromtrans, GTLK, Sberbank Leasing, which makes more than 3,000 wagons.
“Now Russia’s wagons will work for Ukraine’s economy. They will be useful to Ukrzaliznytsia, as we are developing new logistics routes to Europe to help resume freight operations,” the statement said.
There are only 482 Ukrainian wagons in Russia.
