Currently, all NPPs in Ukraine are operating. At the same time, due to the occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP and Enerhodar by the occupiers, nuclear and radiation safety is under threat.
This news reports National Nuclear Energy Generating Company "Enerhoatom".
"As of 09:00 16th of March 2022, all four nuclear power plants in Ukraine consistently produce electric power. In total, their current capacity will provide the needed amount of electric energy for the whole country" - the company reports.
"Under conditions of martial law and full-scale aggression of Russia, Enerhoatom company has strengthened its control and determined the exclusive priority of the safety of nuclear installations over all others.
The main equipment of the reactor compartments of power units, premises and buildings of power plants, the perimeters of protected areas and adjacent areas, as well as essential NPP facilities outside their protected areas, are under increased supervision and control," the statement said.
The company reminded that the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the city of Enerhodar were captured by the occupiers and have been under the control of their military units for 12 days.
"As of this morning, the station has fifty units of enemy equipment and many Russian soldiers, many explosives, and weapons. The occupiers continued to detonate shells and mines on the station that did not explode when they fired on it. The explosions can be heard far outside the NPP site," "Enerhoatom said.
At the same time, all six power units of Zaporizhzhia NPP are serviced by Ukrainian personnel; shifts are rotating.
"Formally, the occupiers do not interfere in the work of the NPP, but the staff is forced to coordinate all technical decisions with the commander of the invaders. Employees of the station are under strong psychological pressure from the occupiers; armed terrorists carefully check all staff on arrival at the station. As a result, nuclear and radiation safety are at stake. Due to the actual blockade of Enerhodar, problems with fuel, food and essential medicines continue," the company added.
