The personnel of the Chornobyl NPP is caring for the safety of the power plant and the whole world under inhumane conditions. The occupiers turned the nuclear power plant into the military base, the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine “Enerhoatom” said on the morning of March 16.
They emphasize that the Chornobyl NPP personnel have been working for 21 days without shifts, providing nuclear and radiation safety of all the elements and systems of the station.
“103 specialists are providing the safety not only for the plant but also for the whole world, as they, like no one else, understand the consequences of the possible nuclear catastrophe. Ruscists (Russian fascists) have shown complete disregard for the safety, essentially turning the nuclear objects into the military base,” the Enerhoatom states.
The National Nuclear Energy Generating Company assures that as of today, March 16, the radiation background on the Chornobyl NPP and around it has not changed and is within the normal limits.
Russian occupiers right now are not interrupting the production process. There is almost no communication between them and the power plant staff. From the very beginning of the occupation, the staff openly expressed a negative attitude towards the invaders.
Enerhoatom reports that the Chornobyl NPP staff eats their own food from the previous stocks. The staff does not accept food and other products from the occupiers.
Ukrainian nuclear scientists refused the offer to change the shirts, realizing that this way they would put their colleagues at risk, making them voluntary hostages of the occupiers. Also, if the staff leaves the station, Russian occupiers can bring new staff from “Rosatom.”
As a result of hostile actions by the Russian occupiers, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was completely de-energized. Active combat made it impossible to repair and restore power.
On March 13, Ukrainian specialists restored power at Chornobyl NPP and the town of Slavutych. The next day the occupiers again damaged the line to Chornobyl NPP repaired by Ukrainians. Emergency crews had to go into the unsafe zone once more and repair the damage.
