Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim A. A. Khan announced his stay in Ukraine and the course of the Russian Federation crimes investigation.
In a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy he said that he had already seen photos from Mariupol and other cities, showing how children, women and men suffer. An excerpt from a conversation with the prosecutor was released by the President's Office.
"The law must go forward now, it should be used to protect these people. The historic unification of the international community took place. 41 countries in 48 hours after my invitation, from Colombia to Japan, and so many European countries - they realized that the rule of law can not just live in universities and courts, "said Khan.
Zelensky noted that up to 1,000 enemy soldiers are in captivity, and they will also testify.
Earlier, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Karim A. A. Khan (Great Britain), himself initiated an investigation of Russia's crimes against Ukraine. He describes the actions of the occupier as "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity".
He noted that Ukraine was not a party to the Rome statute that established the ICC, so it could not refer the alleged crimes itself.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine believes that the top military and political leadership of Russia will definitely appear before the ICC and will be held responsible for every crime committed. This will be the Nuremberg Trials of the 21-st century.
