"Given the situation, we gathered people who got out of the blockade of Mariupol to Berdiansk. All 15 buses with Mariupol residents have arrived in Zaporizhzhia, where they receive the necessary assistance. Today 6426 Mariupol residents arrived in Zaporizhzhia; among them, there are 2039 of our children. People are still moving out from Mariupol. We left food and medicine in Berdyansk, "Vereshchuk said.
She also said that the occupying forces did not guarantee the functioning of the humanitarian "green" corridor from Mariupol in the morning. But many people still left with their cars.
"At the same time, given the large flow of people in their cars, we negotiated the whole day to ensure a regime of silence. Our convoy with food and evacuation buses was never allowed into Mariupol," Vereshchuk said.
On 16 March 2022, Russian troops purposefully destroyed the Drama Theater in the center of Mariupol, which served as a shelter for hundreds of citizens. A bomb was dropped on the building. It is still impossible to estimate the scale of this horrific and inhumane act because the city residential areas suffer constant shellings.
