Ukrainian gas distribution stations will be urgently equipped with solar panels to provide backup power - GTS

The Operator GTS (gas transportation system) of Ukraine is urgently installing solar panels at gas distribution stations to provide backup power.

This is stated in the company's message on Facebook.

"During the day, the solar panel will provide electricity to metering systems and charge the battery. At night, a battery will give the complex power. We will use equipment already available in suppliers' warehouses in Ukraine. Installation and adjustment of the equipment are conducted independently by Operator GTS. - noted in the company.

According to the general director of Operator GTS of Ukraine, Serhiy Makohon, the project was planned before the war. It was one of the initiatives to optimize energy consumption.

"Now that Ukraine's power grids are suffering from constant enemy shelling, gas distribution stations must have autonomous power options and be able to perform their functions," Makohon added.

At the beginning of March, the Operator GTS of Ukraine was compelled to stop gas supply in the city of Voznesensk of the Mykolaiv region, where due to the Russian attack, the distribution networks were damaged.

On 14 March 2022, there was a fire at a gas distribution station in the Mykolaiv region due to attacks. As a result, the odorant concentration in the air exceeded the norm by 15 times.
