A large blue and yellow flag was hung out today on the building of the Kherson City Council which was occupied by Russian troops.
This is reported by Kherson mayor Igor Kolykhayev.
"On the night of the shelling of the City Council the cable holding our state flag was broken. Actually, it was high time to change the flag as it was sun faded and frayed. That's not the way it should be. Today we managed to hang a new one. Hello, my Hero City!" - Kolykhayev wrote on Facebook in the morning on Thursday, March 24.
The Russian army occupied the city on the first day of the war. Despite this, pro-Ukrainian rallies in occupied Kherson take place almost daily. The occupiers threw sound and flash grenades at the peaceful protesters and used tear gas against them.
On March 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Kherson, as well as Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Mariupol, Gostomel and Volnovakha the honorary title of "Hero City."
