The leakage was not detected after the russian forces damaged the ammonia pipeline at one of the biggest food processing facilities in Chernihiv. The heads of the state regional administrations stated this in their reports.
“The State Emergency Service was working at the spot. Anticipatorily, they did not detect the leak of ammonia” the message said.
Residents of the city were warned what to do in case of a chemical threat.
Earlier, on 23 March, russian forces shelled a food processing facility in Chernihiv. The shell hit the engine room and damaged the major ammonia pipeline.
On 21 March as a result of russian shelling of the Sumykhimprom Chemical Plant, located on the outskirts of the city, the ammonia leakage took place. The radius of the contaminated zone is estimated to be 2.5-5 km.
