The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, said he wanted to conduct a humanitarian operation to evacuate people from Mariupol in cooperation with Turkey and Greece. RBK-Ukraina reports with reference to BfmTv that Emmanuel Macron announced this after a meeting of the European Council.
"We will initiate a humanitarian operation together with Greece and Turkey to evacuate all those who want to leave Mariupol. We will organize everything in the best possible way considering current conditions. In this city with a population of over 400 000 people, 150 000 of them live in catastrophic conditions," - Macron said.
Le Figaro, citing Macron, wrote that the evacuation should occur in the coming days.
"There have been specific discussions with Mariupol City Mayor. We are doing this transparently with President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian authorities. And then, we will negotiate with the Russian side. We are going to do this in the coming days. In the next 48 hours, I will talk to Vladimir Putin to set the details," - the president of France added.
Earlier the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikos Dendias, said that he is going to accompany the humanitarian mission to Mariupol.
